The global cyber-attack which affected more than 200,000 computers in 150 countries including NHS England has been a wake up call to businesses of all sizes on the dangers of Ransomware.
WannaCry – the virus in question – only infected machines running Windows operating systems that had not installed the latest security updates issued by Microsoft in March. At Dragon IS our clients’ IT security is paramount and fortunately their networks were all patched and protected with the most up to date security in the weeks preceding the attack.
It’s highly likely that hackers will to attempt to cause further damage in future by finding new ways to mutate the WannaCry virus, or even introduce new Zero Day viruses that the IT community are not yet aware of. So how can small firms protect themselves against future attacks?
